Dr. Schulze Superfood Plus ReviewOverview

Having held a strong presence in the superfood market for more than a quarter of a century, Dr. Schulze’s SuperFood Plus (DSSP) is a product not to be ignored. With that extensive of a successful history, this superfood supplement carries credibility that is difficult to overlook.

It has been tried and proven, and after an evaluation of the DSSP formula, I can verify that it’s a great product that can deliver healthy, dense calories. The biggest downfall for DSSP is its lack of any additional nutrients, and it’s scant on the nutrition panel outside of the superfoods.

Nutrition & Superfoods

Let’s pause for a brief history lesson:

Before the idea of ‘superfoods’ even existed back in 1979, Dr. Schulze’s SuperFood Plus was almost the sole provider of energy greens. DSSP has been and still is manufactured in Dr. Schulze’s facility with absolutely no heat treatment—which is awesome! While the product lacks additional nutrient panels, it is what it is…and it is excellent!

The product ingredient list contains an impressive blend of greens and algae that include some of the following:

[unordered_list style=”tick”]

  • Chlorella
  • Spirulina (which has really gained popularity through credited research since 1979)
  • Blue-Green Algae
  • Alfalfa grasses
  • Beet
  • Spinach
  • Wheat
  • Barley
  • Seaweed (Dulse)
  • Rose Hips
  • Citrus Peels (orange and lemon)
  • Palm Fruit
  • Acerola Cherry

This formula is actually pretty great for what it is, but with purchasing this product, you just have to be aware that DSSP doesn’t contain the enzymes, antioxidants, probiotics or added protein that you have come to expect with superfood green drinks.[hr]

The Good

The integrity of the formula and its credible history are definite selling points for DSSP. This superfood formula is manufactured in Dr. Schulze’s facility and therefore the quality of its production is almost untouchable.

For the value and quantity of superfoods you get with Dr. Schulze’s SuperFood Plus, it really sits at a pretty decent price. The actual servings-per-container could do with a boost, though.

The Bad

The taste of DSSP is a bit tough to get over. The yeast that is used as a base, together with the grasses and algae, certainly pack a punch for the taste buds. I would highly recommend mixing your drink/smoothie with other fruits, some yogurt, and even some low-sugar fruit juices. Even with a nasty taste, it’s important to recall the ‘why’ for the taste—you are getting some great body-benefiting nutrients with that swampy drink!

Taste and Value

As mentioned before, the taste needs to be masked.

As far as value goes, you are looking at about $38 per jar, which adds up to about $2.75 per serving. While the website claims that the 14 ounce jar will last for a month, other reviews have claimed that it’s realistically only a couple of weeks if you use two tablespoons each day.

Going along with the value of DSSP, keep in mind that if you are looking for complex nutritional panels, you might be better off with Athletic Greens or Living Green Supreme Food. If you are looking for a “kitchen-sink” type meal replacement, go with Shakeology. All of these have a lot more to offer.

DSSP really is a great product with a phenomenal history. As far as simple-formula superfoods, it has stood the test of time. It carries a pretty easy price tag and masking the taste is simple enough. This product serves its purpose and I think we will see it continue its track of proven success.[hr]
